Best Chicken Rice in Klang Valley
Chicken rice is undoubtedly one of the most iconic hawker dishes in Malaysia, and it’s not hard to understand why. Fragrant rice paired with tender meat, accompanied with spicy-savory sauces and chili. Mmmm…!
The dish can be found easily in just about any hawker centre, food court, franchise outlet or restaurant. We went on a quest to discover the best chicken rice in Klang Valley.
Read on for a list of Malaysians’ most beloved chicken rice stalls!
1. Fook Loong Chicken Rice @ Restoran M-TWO
A go-to chicken rice stall among locals, Fook Loong Chicken Rice is a hidden gem within Resotran M-TWO. Many flock here for the silky texture of the roasted chicken meat and skin. Their perfectly charred and caramelized char siew is also a must-try!
Apart from these, we really enjoyed their rice too. The plump and fluffy grains certainly did not lack the aromatic fragrance a chicken rice should carry. We paid only RM5 for a plate here, which is quite cheap considering it’s located in Kuala Lumpur.
📍 2, Jalan Burung Pucung, Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong 52100 Kuala Lumpur
⏰ 08:00-15:00 (closed on Wed)
2. Ah Yap Chicken Restaurant
Ah Yap Chicken Restaurant is no stranger to the locals residing in Kepong. The humble eatery serves juicy Kampung chicken topped with aromatic soy sauce dressing. You can also order sides such as sprouts and braised eggs to go with your meal.
The highlight of our meal, however, was their signature green chili paste. While the chicken tasted great on its own, the flavors were significantly enhanced when dipped in green chili paste!
📍 1175, Jalan Kanan, Desa Jaya Kepong, 52100 Kuala Lumpur
⏰ 10:00-15:00, 17:30-21:00 (closed on Mon)
3. Gombak Fried Chicken Rice
Unlike the rest of the stalls on this list that offer roasted or steamed chicken, this hawker prides themselves on serving up fried chicken rice, even going to the extent of labelling themselves as “Gombak Fried Chicken King”.
We ordered a plate and true enough, their fried chicken proves moist, juicy, and intensely flavored! The chicken was very well-marinated and each bite oozed out juices.
A single portion costs RM6.50, and comes complete with soup, fried chicken, and seasoned rice. We think it’s definitely worth the price; the size of the chicken alone warrants a trip down.
📍 Jalan Prima Setapak, Taman Setapak, 53100 Kuala Lumpur
⏰ 10:00-17:00 (closed on Mon)
4. Restaurant Loke Yun Ampang
Restaurant Loke Yun Ampang is arguably one of the most iconic chicken rice stalls in Klang Valley. Founded in 1971, the restaurant went from a humble stall to a full-fledged restaurant.
Perhaps due to the fact that the restaurant uses free-range chickens only, the meat served is lower in fat and also has a stronger full-bodied flavor. The perfectly poached meat is the result of decades of training and experience.
If you’re looking to taste authentic Hainanese chicken rice, Restaurant Loke Yun Ampang is the place to go!
📍 158, Jalan Besar Ampang, Pekan Ampang, 68000 Ampang, Selangor

Having been in the business for over 25 years, Kee Kee Bentong Chicken Rice remains a favorite among locals for a reason.
Each plate comes with flavorful rice, slices of poached chicken with a nice coating of gelatinous skin, and just the right amount of soy sauce to add saltiness.

There are only a handful of places that can make poached chicken taste good and tender, and Restoran Prosperity Bowl is definitely one of the few. The restaurant has even won an award for having the Best Chicken Rice in Klang Valley for the Star People’s Food Awards in 2014.
Their juicy slices of steamed kampung chicken with an accompanying plate of fragrant rice or hor fun has won the hearts of many. While you are there, be sure to try out their iced coffee and thick chunks of char siew too!

If a stall commands a long lunch hour queue, you know it’s good. Although not specifically known for its rice, we decided to include Guang Ji Ho Fun & Chicken Rice on the list for its steamed chicken.
The tender chicken meat is covered in a nice coating of gelatinous skin, and is best eaten with their silky kai si hor fun. The stall also offers char siew and braised pork, both of which are worth a try.

Located at a corner shop along Jalan Gasing, Restoran Satellite has been around for almost 60 years. The restaurant serves various noodle dishes but most people come for irresistible servings of roasted or steamed chicken and pork meatballs.
One thing to note is that the price for Restoran Satellite is on the higher side so you might want to check the price list before ordering.
