Where is Kuala Selangor?

Kuala Selangor is a small town nestled at the mouth of the Selangor River. It is a popular getaway for Kuala Lumpur’s residents, who wish to escape the busy bustle of the capital in pursuit of a laid back, relaxing atmosphere.

Things to do in Kuala Selangor for a fun trip

1. Go back in time at Melawati Hill

With so much to see and do, the historical Melawati Hill is one of the main attractions of Kuala Selangor. Nature lovers will definitely enjoy the breathtaking views of the Selangor River and Straits of Melaka from on top of the hill.

You can easily spend a whole day at Melawati Hill hiking and exploring its remnants of the past, such as the iconic Altingsburg Lighthouse, Tanjong Keramat Fort, Virgin’s Grave, and more.

While you’re here, you might also run into a few cheeky furry companions – silvered leaf monkeys (also known as silvery lutung). These Old World monkeys are known for their unique silvery fur tips. Interestingly, their newborns have orange fur and white-colored hands, feet, and face.

Twice a month, a vast sandbar appears at Sasaran Beach when the tides are right, transforming it into a massive mirror with unparalleled views of the sky and everything beneath it.
To make sure you don’t miss out on the best season for a picturesque view, book a fully-guided tour to the Sky Mirror. The tour usually includes a 30-minute boat ride and meals.

4. Watch fireflies glow in sync

Kuala Selangor is one of the best places in Malaysia to see fireflies. Pteroptyx tener, the firefly species found in the area, is known to light up in synchronisation. There are various tours available at night which take you through the Selangor river to witness this magical sight. Sky Mirror Tour & Travel offers well-planned packages which include both trips to the sky mirror and the fireflies.

5. Souvenir shopping at Jin Xiang Kuala Selangor Seafood Shop

Due to the town’s location near the river, fresh seafood products are the best things to buy in Kuala Selangor as souvenirs. Jin Xiang is the perfect destination to end your trip as you can get all kinds of local goods here such as prawn crackers, seafood products, handmade noodles, and more.
